ASYLUM

On occasion, we encounter a physician/scientist who has fled his/her home country due to a well-founded fear of persecution. The asylum process is aimed at providing that individual with the ability to remain in the U.S. permanently, if he/she can establish persecution in his/her home country plus a likelihood that such persecution would continue should a return to the home country be mandated.

The U.S. Immigration Service does a good job explaining the asylum process.
